Robbing God of His Glory

So the NatGeo channel has been doing this series called "One Strange Rock," hosted by Will Smith. It's all about the marvels of the earth. Wonderful video, interesting facts, lots of fascinating views from space, but of course, being mostly secularists, never a word of praise to the Creator of it all! Everything is just one huge accident. It saddens me.

When Lynn and I had our first child, I painted the baby's room, we put in a new crib, fixed it all up for her, put teddy bears and pretty decals on the walls, etc. Imagine if she'd grown up and said, wow, look at all this stuff in here. It must have just appeared by accident! How wrong and how sad that would've been! To miss the loving care lavished on her, and think it all happened by chance?!

So here's a quote from Ramon Lull, a missionary, monk, and mystic I'm writing about from the 13th century. He's writing about a non-believer:

"Alas, sinful creature! You who for so long have received divine gifts in this worldly life from the Lord on high, who gave you being, whose goods you have eaten and drunk, who gave you your clothing, gave you children, and gave you whatever wealth you have, who has kept you alive and has honored you among people, you have never, for a single day or even a single hour, thanked Him for all these things, nor have you obeyed His commandments. Ah, miserable wretch! How you have been deceived by ignorance, which so clouded the eyes of your soul that you did not recognize that Lord who is so honorable, so glorious, so worthy of honors!"

In my mind, this describes the secularists at NatGeo and so many others in our society today. They spend all this time making these beautiful productions that show the glory of God, and they never even mention Him. Never even think anything about Him. To them, it's all just a big cosmic accident. If only they could see the glory of the Creator behind all of creation! If only they would give Him glory just once! But alas! As another heathen, Elton John said in a song, "For unless they see the sky, but they can't and that is why, they know not if it's dark outside or light." (Elton may have sung those words, but he sure doesn't realize how much they apply to him! He's as blind as any, but that's a subject for another blog.
