Pietism, Methodism, and the Holiness Movement

The doctrinal debates of the Reformation era led to dry orthodoxy and intellectualism. Pietism was a reaction, as people sought a religion of the heart again, and Pietism brought revival to Europe. Out of Pietism came the Moravians, Church of the Brethren, and also, Pietism influenced the development of Methodism. Out of Methodism and Wesleyan influence, came the Holiness movement, which would later affect the origins of the Pentecostal stream of Christianity.
