While waiting for my flight home in a Virginia airport I heard a father reading a book to his young son in another language. Intrigued, I walked up and asked the man where he was from and what his language was. He responded that he and his family were from India, and he was reading in Hindi. I interacted with them about India, mentioning some other languages I knew Indian people speak, some areas of the country, and that I have had some interactions with other Indians over the last year through my connection with the Third Education Revolution. Active or Passive?
Recent discussion with various church attenders indicate that some are confused about what Christians should do in the world and in current society. Should we resist current trends and try to reverse them, or should we just “hunker down” and try to ride out the storm, knowing that biblical prophecy clearly shows we’re to expect the rise of Antichrist and that the world will go from bad to worse before the end comes? Abortion Rights and Wrongs
My country’s reactions to the recent reversal of Roe v Wade have prompted me to write on the subject. I hope you’ll read them and respond.
I’m back!
It’s been a long time since I’ve posted anything here. I’ve been busy going in many different directions. But lately, I’ve been feeling the need to get back to posting on the website and in Facebook. The following is my latest “essay.”
I wanted to respond to a Heritage Foundation article I read on the place of religion in conservatism. Continue reading “I’m back!”
“Grim” Fairy Tales Modern People Believe
Nowadays we have learned so many things. Science and technology have made so many amazing advances. And yet, at the same time, I find modern people believe in just as many, if not more, “fairy tales” as ancient or medieval people. Consider the following: Continue reading ““Grim” Fairy Tales Modern People Believe”
My Philosophical Journey
Reading a great book by Dr. Ed Feser has prompted me to take note of a journey into Philosophy I’ve been on for many years.
A review of Thomas Sowell’s book, A Conflict of Visions
Books we read can have a big impact on our thinking. I’ve always admired economist Thomas Sowell and have read several of his books. I recently finished A Conflict of Visions, which I recommend. I wanted to write up a sort of review of the book and some thoughts I had as a result of reading it. Continue reading “A review of Thomas Sowell’s book, A Conflict of Visions”
The Importance of Philosophy
There is so much confusion today about philosophy! Many Christians think it’s to be avoided. Many atheists and skeptics don’t even realize how their own philosophical assumptions influence their thinking. Our society in general has accepted so many such assumptions, without realizing they are assumptions! They think they’re just “common sense” that “everybody knows.” It’s a huge “blind-spot.” That’s why I’m posting this document I wrote on the subject. The Importance of Philosophy
Take Paradise; Put up a parking lot!
So Adam and Eve, we’re told, were in Paradise, the Garden of Eden. It was a wonderful place, an ideal place. They had everything they could’ve wanted.
But one day a snake sowed discontent into their minds, and they began to see negatives where there really were no negatives. God had only and always given them the best and done the very best for them. But they began to think He wasn’t that great after all. He was keeping things from them. He didn’t want them to eat from one particular tree, because that would make them gods, like Him. Continue reading “Take Paradise; Put up a parking lot!”
Bigotry?
So, as most of you know, I watch a lot of debates and discussions on YouTube. Today I watched an older one of Sam Harris, one the so-called “four horsemen of the apocalypse” who are also called the new atheists. I like a lot of what Sam says, because to me, he’s usually fairly reasonable. However, on the clip I watched today, Don Lemon of CNN had him on in opposition to a man named Dean Obeidallah from the Daily Beast, a Muslim apologist. Dean called Sam a bigot. Sam rebuked him, basically saying what he says about Islam is fact-based, and we should just discuss facts, not attack people. Then Sam went on to say that Dr. Ben Carson is a bigot, because he said Islam isn’t compatible with American values. He also said Carson proved you can be a doctor, a surgeon, and not a scientist, because Carson doesn’t believe in evolution. So Carson, who wasn’t there to defend himself, was called a bigot and a non-scientist, because of his opinion on something, but Harris was offended that Obeidallah called him a bigot for his opinions on Islam. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLN9ZHNA_3c&t=1s Continue reading “Bigotry?”
