What lies we’re being told!

I have finished Dinesh D’Souza’s book, The Big Lie, and I highly recommend it. It’s about how our American society is being fed an outrageous lie, and it’s being done so boldly, that many accept it without question. The lie is that those on the Right are fascists, Donald Trump is a fascist, the GOP is fascist, and we all need to be resisted “by any means necessary” in order to save the country. The Left really wants to thwart the desires of the public and undo a legitimate election, and they’re using academia, the press, and Hollywood to try and bring it about. Some of the things D’Souza shares in this book I found hard to accept, but gradually, as I read his arguments and saw the evidence, I was convinced. I really think we all need to read what he has to say. If you’re like me, you won’t believe it can be true, but sadly, it is!

Quotes from “The Victory of Reason,” by Dr. Rodney Stark

I love this book! Here’s a great quote from the conclusion:

“Christianity created Western Civilization. Had the followers of Jesus remained an obscure Jewish sect, most of you would not have learned to read and the rest of you would be reading from hand-copied scrolls. Without a theology committed to reason, progress, and moral equality, today the entire world would be about where non-European societies were in, say, 1800: A world with many astrologers and alchemists but no scientists. A world of despots, lacking universities, banks, factories, eyeglasses, chimneys, and pianos. A world where most infants do not live to see the age of five and many women die in childbirth – a world truly living in “dark ages.”  Continue reading “Quotes from “The Victory of Reason,” by Dr. Rodney Stark”

God’s Two Books

The last few days, I’ve been finishing up another of Dr. Hugh Ross’s books on how science and faith fit together so well. Reading of these books has given me a greater appreciation for the astonishing complexity, vastness, and practical infinity of the physical universe. The more you study any aspect of nature or creation, whether it be the galaxies of stars or the intricacies of the human body and DNA, or the tectonic plates on which the continents float, or the amazing things that go on in the earth’s core,  the more you study and ponder these things, the more you realize how powerful, wise, and brilliant God is.

A highly recommended book

You know I like to read, right? And I also like to recommend books I read. Well, this is one I highlImage resulty recommend for every Christian. It will help you understand the art and science of biblical interpretation, or what’s officially called “hermeneutics.” I just finished another course in this subject, and this was one of the required texts. I’d already read it for another course, but I re-read it for this one, and it was well worth my time. So many of the errors of today’s Christian Church would be avoided if only God’s people understood the principles of right biblical interpretation. This book will really help you in that respect. It’s written by two professors; one teaches Old Testament and the other New Testament, but they write in an easily understood style directed toward the general public, not just scholars. I really urge you to get this book. It’ll bless your life and help you understand God’s Word.
