Mexican History, applied to us today

History of Mexico

The last couple of weeks, I’ve been reading a rather extensive history of Mexico. I’ve traveled pretty much all over the country, it’s where I learned Spanish, we lived there a while when I went to language school, I have a son-in-law from there, I have four grandsons who are half Mexican. Mexico’s had a rather large impact upon my life. And of course, we lived on the border in El Paso for 21 years. And as I often say, “hágale cuenta que si vives en El Paso, prácticamente estás viviendo en Mexico! (Be aware, if you live in El Paso, you practically live in Mexico.) Better or Worse?

While waiting for my flight home in a Virginia airport I heard a father reading a book to his young son in another language. Intrigued, I walked up and asked the man where he was from and what his language was. He responded that he and his family were from India, and he was reading in Hindi. I interacted with them about India, mentioning some other languages I knew Indian people speak, some areas of the country, and that I have had some interactions with other Indians over the last year through my connection with the Third Education Revolution. Active or Passive?

Recent discussion with various church attenders indicate that some are confused about what Christians should do in the world and in current society. Should we resist current trends and try to reverse them, or should we just “hunker down” and try to ride out the storm, knowing that biblical prophecy clearly shows we’re to expect the rise of Antichrist and that the world will go from bad to worse before the end comes? I’m back!

It’s been a long time since I’ve posted anything here. I’ve been busy going in many different directions. But lately, I’ve been feeling the need to get back to posting on the website and in Facebook. The following is my latest “essay.”

I wanted to respond to a Heritage Foundation article I read on  the place of religion in conservatism. Continue reading “I’m back!”

The Importance of Philosophy

There is so much confusion today about philosophy! Many Christians think it’s to be avoided. Many atheists and skeptics don’t even realize how their own philosophical assumptions influence their thinking. Our society in general has accepted so many such assumptions, without realizing they are assumptions! They think they’re just “common sense” that “everybody knows.” It’s a huge “blind-spot.” That’s why I’m posting this document I wrote on the subject. The Importance of Philosophy

Take Paradise; Put up a parking lot!

So Adam and Eve, we’re told, were in Paradise, the Garden of Eden. It was a wonderful place, an ideal place. They had everything they could’ve wanted.

But one day a snake sowed discontent into their minds, and they began to see negatives where there really were no negatives. God had only and always given them the best and done the very best for them. But they began to think He wasn’t that great after all. He was keeping things from them. He didn’t want them to eat from one particular tree, because that would make them gods, like Him. Continue reading “Take Paradise; Put up a parking lot!”
